DIY Dry Shampoo for Dark Hair

Dry shampoos seem to be all the rage now, and I have tried a few off the shelf products, but have found that they often leave my hair looking way greyer than it already is, and I work so hard to keep the greys covered up, the last thing I want is to look like I have more!

I just recently came across a pin for a DIY dry shampoo - it provides instructions for both light and dark hair, but since I have brown hair, I obviously tested the dark hair version.

This pin intrigued me because I have never seen dry shampoo for different hair colors - more of a one fits all product.  The ingredients were all items already in my baking cabinet, so I whipped up a batch in a few minutes and tested it in between shampoos.  The cornstarch, in theory, should soak up any oil, and the cocoa, from what I can tell, is only used to prevent the white look on dark hair.  Plus making your hair smell like you washed it in melted chocolate!

I was so excited for this to work. And you know what? It did.  It freshened up my day 2 hair, and totally covered up my outgrowth (along with the greys).  It lasted all day and well into the next morning when I got around to washing my hair.  It did such a bang-up job, I will definitely be using this more often.

Kool-Aid Lip Balm

So one of my very first pins was a DIY lip balm using Kool-Aid for a tint.  I just received about 20 packets of Kool-Aid from a family member who was cleaning our their pantry so the timing was perfect to try it out.  But as often happens to me at work, I tend to become way too organized with what board (file) I save things to and for the life of me could not find the pin, so despite my desire to try previously pinned items before I pin anything new, I wanted to try something really easy, so away I went to find and pin it to my 'What a beaut' board.

I ended up making a very, very, very small batch as I wasn't sure I would like the tint of the red-based Kool-Aid drink packets and the instructions provided started with a disclaimer that the results were hit or miss, but that did not deter me from plowing on.  I mean, come on, what is easier than something that only requires 2 ingredients!

The process was very simple, but I was not all that thrilled with the results.  Now, it could be because I guestimated the amount of Kool-Aid to add to my very, very, very small batch - I had only 1 small empty tin to use so it probably amounted to about 1 tablespoon of vaseline and a smattering of strawberry Kool-Aid.  The tinted lip balm does not really provide any color on my lips, and provides a somewhat sour taste due to the unsweetened Kool-Aid.  I may try to reheat the results and add more strawberry Kool-Aid, but am concerned that it will only increase the sour taste.  I guess what I really need to do is kick the habit of licking my lips - I wonder if there are any pins with tips of breaking that habit?!?

Welcome to PinPalooza!

Hi, my name is Sharon and I am a Pinterest addict.

I pin to my boards daily, but have found that I hardly ever go back to look at what I've actually pinned.  I guess you can call me a pin-aholic....always searching for the latest, greatest, cutest, neatest, easiest, "gee, why didn't I think of that?!?" pins to add to my boards.  But do I ever go back and actually look at previous pins?  Hardly. Pinterest has become my "virtual" shoebox of clipped magazine pages that, yep, I do have stashed in a storage closet and hardly ever look through (but that may be the topic for a whole other blog!).

Hence the birth of this blog - who's purpose will be to hold me accountable to actually look back at what I've pinned and either try them (and document the failure/success) or purge them as they may no longer fit what my style, interests, actual ability level might be.  First, I need to figure out how to remove Pins - is there even that feature available on Pinterest?  Oh well, on to PinPalooza!!!
